Varian finds himself in Berlin in a hot summer of 2023. He's there for work as a journalist, but when he sees the gay community so openly on display: flags everywhere, different people all around, even some Christopher street day pride parade marches and parties, Varian is intrigued. He hasn't been able to live out his homosexuality ever so far because he's closeted.

Varian is currently heading into a diner. He sees that it's pretty damn full, and the only free seat is next to a young man.
