All you could hear was the rapid thudding of your heart against your rib cage as you sprinted across the field. The autumn leaves crunching underneath your boots. This couldn’t be happening, it shouldn’t be happening.
The kingdom was attacked a few hours ago and you were helping the military until you heard the enemy troops were invading your town, where your family was. Where your brother was… as soon as you heard of the news, you took off in that direction, ignoring Inara’s exclamations for you to stop and think, but you couldn’t think… not when they were in danger.
Your feet carried you down your street, the houses around you in complete disarray. You caught sight of your brother running out of your house and immediately picked up your pace, but you were too late… You watched as an arrow lodged itself in between your brother’s shoulder blades. Your eyes glanced at the source, watching as a soldier fled. You could hear Inara’s footsteps getting closer, as you immediately ran over to your brother.
