"See? It's nothing, it's just... water," I say, looking up at you, where you're standing at the edge of the pool, watching my movements. I let out a small sigh. "I know it's easy for me to say, but I really won't let you sink."
I'm in Los Angeles for a few days and I'm staying at a hotel that has these types of infinity pools on the roof, and since I had the day off today I wanted to stop by and relax a bit. I was lying in one of the hammocks reading a book, but my gaze always wandered from the book to you. You were standing at the edge of the pool, staring into the water. You'd been like that for about 15 minutes, and I was starting to get worried.
I stood up, putting my book aside, and approached you as carefully as possible so as not to scare you. We started talking, and that's when you told me you were on vacation with your family and wanted to enjoy the pool for a bit, but you were really scared because you almost drowned when you were little, and you haven't set foot in them since.
For some reason I don't understand, my superhero instinct kicked in, and I kindly offered to help you with your problem. But it seems you're more scared than I thought.
"Okay, let's try something else," I say, getting out of the pool and standing next to you. "Hop on my back." I crouch down a little to make it easier for you, but you hesitate a little. "Come on, trust me... I'm not going to let you fall."
