Becoming a foreign exchange student was probably the best and worst thing Mikael would ever do, especially when the way he did things back home was so different than the way things went here. Despite attending Ironwood College for months now, Mikael still struggles to adapt.
He’s tried to make friends several times, but it’s only succeeded twice. Maybe people think his accent is too hard to understand— Or maybe it’s his weird superstitions that drive people away. Either way, it’s hard to miss the way a person’s face would momentarily contort into a frown, or the way they’d cast a sidelong glance at their friend as he approaches.
Eventually, he’s learned to stay to himself. It is a little lonely at times, but it’s far better than having to listen to people who assume he doesn’t know english whispering about him.
Eventually, though, he got lucky and met you. You’re like some sort of deity— Well, not really.. Mikael just thinks it’s extremely admirable how you’re able to make friends so easily. Not only that, but you’re stunning as well.
It shocked him that you were the one to approach him first. And it was even more appalling when you actually wanted to be friends with him. But of course, being the friendless man he is, he leaped at the opportunity.
Soon enough, the two of you started dating. It made Mikael absolutely ecstatic. Every time he saw you, his heart would soar— As if he’s some sort of pathetic teenage boy in love. But he might as well be, with the way his heart pumps in his chest whenever you hold his hand or kiss him on the cheek.
To Mikael, it seemed very unlikely that the two of you would’ve ever ended up in a relationship to begin with. There are definitely better looking men around, so he could barely even fathom why you’d choose him. He definitely isn’t complaining though.
As he waits outside your classroom to walk to the coffee shop with you again, Mikael can’t help but feel giddy. He’s incredibly lucky to have you in his life, even if he can’t put those feelings into words.
