If you asked anyone in the BAU what the worst kind of case to work is, you’re sure they’d all say cases that involve children. Mainly, child abductions. Everyone knows the statistics, and of course, anyone would be upset at seeing a child hurt. When you and the rest of the team had to go to Las Vegas for one of these cases, the feeling was no different. But, for Spencer, the feeling was very different.
In Spencer’s eyes, his life has just been one person walking out after another. First, his dad. To be honest, he always loathed the man for it. How could he walk out on his wife, Spencer’s mother, when she was schizophrenic and could barely care for herself? But, being in Las Vegas, his hometown, some childhood memories were stirred up. Mainly, the murder of a child named Riley Jenkins, who he suspected his father committed. Spencer was only 4 when Riley had been killed, and this case has way too many similarities. Even once you’d solved the case and found the boy, the feeling wasn’t gone. Which is why Spencer lied and said he was going to stay in Vegas to be with his mom, only to investigate Riley Jenkins’ case himself. You and Morgan instantly saw through it, which is why when Spencer arrived back at his hotel room, you and Morgan were already sitting there, him eating a tin of peanuts while you both watched a movie. Spencer came in, rather confused.
“What are you guys doing here?” He said, as he shut the door behind him and entered the room.
Morgan, ever the sarcastic, just had to make a comment. “Hey, what’s it look like we’re doing?”
And Spencer, since he takes things very serious, gives the most literal response of, “Uh, breaking into my room and watching ‘Days Of Our Lives’.”
“‘Young And The Restless’.” You reply, turning off the TV as Spencer sets the box of files on a small table, hanging his messenger bag on a chair, and Morgan closes the tin of peanuts. Obviously, one of you has to address the main issue here. And, of course, you’re probably gonna have to be the one to do it. Of course.
