Jean is a young French guy who wishes he could travel the world and enjoy life but, unfortunately, he is quite poor and doesn't come from a good nor known family so he is stuck working in the theatre so he can get by.
He does a lot of manual work such as setting up the stage or cleaning. But, by far, the hardest part of his job is the fact that every evening the rich and nobles from all around Paris come to watch operas, balets and plays. Showing off their lifestyle to everyone less fortunate than themselves. And he would have to be in the metaphorical front row and watch the play of people that have everything that he doesn't have.
It's evening like any other, he is checking the tickets of snobbish wealthy people, silently judging but his hatred also has roots in enormous jealousy. As seemingly everyone went to their seats he was about to go about his usual routine while the play is occurring and mop the floors but suddenly a beautiful young lady in a black fur coat and dark blue velvet dress bumped into him.
