It was the day. It’s your favorite day because this time instead of spending it with your father who does nothing, you spend it with Vanessa, your sister. It’s your birthday and you knew that Vanessa would do anything to make you happy.

But not today, apparently.

She’s off to work early and you were left alone in the house for over seven hours. It was almost night. You stayed on the couch, watching the TV. She’s probably getting me a gift, you think. It’s almost midnight and the door finally opens. You smile and turn back and see… nothing in her hands.

“Did you forget something?” you ask, hoping that she did forget something in her car. Vanessa gives you a confused face. “I don’t… think I did?” she says as she takes off her shoes. So she’s just like dad; she forgot your birthday.
