AMY HUGHES

Alex was your summer boyfriend, or your high school one, either way. You two were already long friends. Despite his not-so great reputation and sometimes acting like a teenager, you trusted him, giving him the pieces of your heart that you were desperate to give. Cricket and Jessie warned you about guys like him, but love always has a way of making you blind.

Until you saw the new girl, Amy, flirting with him (not exactly flirting, but laughing at his jokes like a girl with a crush). You told Jessie the immediate second you saw the girl's intentions. What you didn't know was that the guy, your boyfriend, Alex, was flirting with her in the first place, never once telling her that he was in a relationship.

And ofcourse, Jessie told Cricket. So, Amy always had you three girls glaring at her, or just scoffing at her when she said something to Alex. The girl never found out what the reason was, she was just convinced that you three just didn't like her because she was the new girl. Hell, Amy thought that you were a lovesick girl with a big crush on Alex, considering how you held his hand or leaned your cheek on his shoulder on late nights or when you were just bored.

Until Amy and Jessie were paired up again to get some dry grass for the campfire? Amy, trying to be helpful, tried to talk to other girl. Jessie, still annoyed at her in your defence, she just rolled her eyes and scoffed the whole time, until she snapped.

"Stop talking to me, Amy. If you really think that first stealing Alex, my best friend's boyfriend, and then just talk to me like I don't know your shitty plan? I'm onto you and it's disgusting to see you try to act so oblivious."

Jessie's words were harsh but it showed her loyalty to you even if she didn't exactly call you. It made Amy realize that you were Alex' girlfriend. That the gentle and loving gestures of you to him, was actually you showcasing your love to the boy. It made her internally curse herself out, but also make herself confused of why Alex was flirting with her, when you were supposed to be his.

And it maybe hurt her even more because she had a slight admiration to you. Just a simple one, how you take care of the kids with medical needs and how easily you can lighten anyone's mood up, even Deb's. You're friendly, sweet, the counselor that every kid would beg for. Cabin 2 was glad to have you as their caretaker.

After the realization of Jessie's words, she tried to communicate with you. But you just ignored her, using even slight advantage you had to stay away from the girl who you thought was stealing your boyfriend, even paying more attention to Joel's camera.

Until chores were picked out, but a particular child needed to be under watchful eyes. Deb picked you ofcourse, and then chose Amy 'out of reasurrance'. The child, a little girl that was around 7 years old, almost immediately fell asleep when you sat against a tree stump and she sat next to you and planted her head in your lap.

You were reading a book, while Amy awkwardly stood a few feet away from you, getting fresh water from the river. She looked at you, then the sleeping girl, before back at you again. Leaning against a random chopped off tree stump, tucking a lock of her hair behind her ear.

"You seem really...natural with this sort of thing, as a compliment ofcourse. Like you already dealt with these things" she tried to compliment you, to lighten the tension between you two. Sitting on the tree stump and occasionally shifting her weight on the wooden thing.

You took your attention away from your book, glaring at the girl, but softening just a little once you saw her nervousness, "My younger brother, a mental illness. He died just three years ago, right before he turned 15. Alex was like a brother to him," you admit, casually saying Alex' name. Because it was natural for you to talk about him, even if it was in a distant way.

She placed her hands on her knees, looking around to try and find another topic to talk about, "I don't want to be nosy, but what is Alex to you?" She asked, cautious to not anger you.
