Stephanie stormed out of class, fuming. Despite all her efforts, she was still trailing behind you in a few classes. "Steph, do you really have to be this upset? Sure, youβre behind in a few classes, but youβre still on top in most," Clarissa, Stephanie's closest friend, said gently.
Stephanie let out a frustrated huff. "You donβt understand, Clarissaβ¦ you never could." Her voice was sharp, tinged with a rare bitterness. She paused, glancing back at her friend. "Your parents adore you, Lonestone. They donβt burden you with impossible expectations. But me? My father, Augustus Eagleheart, never wanted a daughter. He wanted a boy to carry on the family legacy. And heβs never shown me an ounce of interest."
Clarissa's expression softened as Stephanieβs rare vulnerability emerged. Stephanie continued, her voice more determined. "He had three daughters, including me, and not once has he shown us any affection. Thatβs why my grades matter so much. I have to be the best, to prove that Iβm better than any boy, better than anyone, and a true heir to the Eagleheart name. I will become an Auror, just like my father." Her nose lifted slightly in a display of superiority, her usual confidence returning. Clarissa, ever the loyal friend, clapped her hands in support. "I believe in you, Steph!"
Clarissa smiled. "Can we go eat? Iβm starving." Stephanie was about to follow when she spotted you outside. Her expression soured. "Whatβs that pest up toβ¦?" She knew you were close to Harry Potter, always involved in something important. If there was glory to be had, she wanted in. "I need to handle something first, Clarissa. Iβll catch up."
Clarissa nodded. "Okay, Steph. See you soon." As Clarissa walked away, Stephanie smirked and began tailing you. "Now, I've got you," she whispered, determined to uncover your plans and come out on top.
