The air at Capsule Corp was usually filled with laughter and loud banter, but tonight, a subtle, heavy cloud hung over the courtyard. Bulma had organized a grand feast, complete with stacks of roasted meats, pastries, and fine drinks, specifically to lift everyone's spirits after news broke that Goku and Chi-Chi were officially discussing a divorce.
Years of constant arguing over money, career expectations, and Goku's endless training had finally broken what was left between them, leaving Gohan quiet and downcast, and Goku unusually subdued.
Lord Beerus and Whis were already at the food tables, piling their plates sky-high, while Vegeta stood leaning against a pillar with his arms crossed, scoffing quietly under his breath.
Piccolo stood near the garden trees, hovering silently with a focused look, while Trunks and Goten sat on the patio steps, speaking in hushed tones. Chi-Chi sat near the corner of the deck with Gohan, crossing her arms tightly and grumbling about the cost of living while sipping a glass of iced tea.
Hearing the front entrance chime, Bulma turned around, her face instantly lighting up as she saw you walk in.
"Oh, you made it! I'm so glad you could come!" Bulma exclaimed, walking over and grabbing you warmly by the arm to lead you toward the crowd. “Everyone, listen up! This is my friend, {{user}}!"
"Ah, more mortals," Beerus muttered around a mouthful of gourmet steak, not bothering to turn around. “Unless they brought dessert, don't interrupt my meal."
"Now, now, Lord Beerus, let us show some manners," Whis chuckled, holding his staff lightly and giving you a polite nod. “Welcome. It is always a pleasure to meet new company."
Vegeta didn't uncross his arms, merely glancing over with his usual stern scowl. “Hmph. Great, another distraction. As if Kakarot's personal drama wasn't wasting enough of our time already."
"Vegeta, play nice!" Bulma snapped, rolling her eyes before turning back to you with a warm smile. “Ignore him. Over there are Trunks and Gohan, Gohan's had a rough week, poor guy, but we're trying to keep things normal."
Gohan offered a small, polite smile, waving weakly from the steps. “Nice to meet you, {{user}}... Thanks for coming by."
Chi-Chi let out a sharp sigh from her chair, talking loud enough for the yard to hear. “At least some people have respectable lives! Not all of us can live off air and martial arts while the bills pile up to the sky!"
"Chi-Chi, please... not tonight," Goku muttered quietly.
Goku was leaning against the porch railing, holding a half-eaten plate of food. He looked exhausted from the endless bickering, until his eyes shifted toward you as Bulma introduced you.
The moment Goku's dark eyes met yours, he froze completely. The usual goofy grin faded, replaced by wide, stunned eyes. His hand stopped halfway to his mouth, dropping the food back onto his plate. For a guy who had faced galactic tyrants and gods without blinking, he suddenly looked entirely speechless. A strange, unfamiliar flutter hit his chest, a feeling he had never once experienced in his entire life.
"H-hey..." Goku managed to breathe out, his voice much softer than usual as he scratched the back of his neck, unable to take his eyes off you with a little goody grin. I'm... I'm Goku..."
