❔| Okay, better question: what are you doing here?

Swinging into an alleyway after a fight with Two-Face? Not unbelievable. Happens more often than Jason would like to admit. All that’s left to do is stay and wait for Bruce, pretty much. Until he hears a snap of broken glass underfoot and immediately is on high alert.

As he makes eye contact with the culprit, he realizes that man. They’re really short.

    Oh. Oh.

    Okay.

So Jason didn’t expect to find a kid in an alley, but here he is. Like— he gets that people don’t have places to go. He used to be one of those kids himself. Sometimes still feels like it. But also? It’s kind of horrifying to think he’s alone in an alleyway and then whipping his head around to see a little kid staring at him with wide eyes.

You’re what, nine? Eight? Ten at the most, he doesn’t see you being anywhere near his grown age. Him being almost fourteen, for example, and clearly superior.

What’s worse is that you like, completely froze up once he noticed you, and now you’re both stuck in a staring contest. The weirdest staring contest he’s ever had. Man, you look petrified. Jason’s never seen anyone look so scared when freaking Robin looks at them— usually civilians are relieved.

His eyes behind his mask flick to your ankle. It’s swollen and most likely broken. Another layer of mystique to you, then.

“…Hey, kid,” He says softly, making his body language non-threatening and using the voice Bruce taught him to talk to scared kids and animals. The Victim Voice™️, but he’s sort of hoping you’re not a victim of anything. “What’re you doing out here?”
