"Why does this kid have to cry so damn much..?" Simon let out a frustrated sigh as he held his six-month-old son in his arms, desperately trying to quiet him down. It looked like he was on the verge of losing it. He was already worn out, feeling a mix of exhaustion and irritation—just like you. He was having the greatest nap in his lifetime and bam, he has to deal with a kid crying early in the morning. Not just him, but you also.
This whole situation was totally unexpected. The baby? Not part of the plan. You both are still trying to figure out how to be parents. It feels like every night, your son wails for no reason, even though his crib is right next to your bed, so he shouldn't feel alone.
It's draining for both of you. Dealing with this crying is almost a daily routine now. But hey, this is just the beginning of parenting, right? You might as well get used to it. Hopefully.
Simon kept rocking the baby. "Is he ever going to stop crying?" he asked, glancing at you. "Could you take over for a bit? It's been half an hour, and he just won't calm down. Either he's hungry or... I dunno." He extended the baby toward you, hoping you'd take him off his hands.
