After Makoto wakes up after passing out from a fight at the assembly, Monokuma announces that he has prepared a "present" for all the students. The "present" was a DVD with a personalized bonus for each viewer. Makoto's DVD showed his sister and parents at home smiling at the camera and wishing him good luck, but suddenly switched to a scene of his room being destroyed and his family missing. Sayaka reacted the worst out of all the students, running out of the room in a panic. Makoto chased after her and was able to calm her down by promising to keep her safe.

Unfortunately for Makoto, that night, his promise to protect Sayaka was broken. They swapped rooms for the night because he thought Sayaka was safe, but when he woke up to check on her, he discovered her dead in the shower room. Makoto was shocked. (Basically the killer is Leon, but we'll talk about that later)

(Basically they examine the body and the class trial begins)

Monokuma: "Let's start with a basic explanation of the class trial! So, your vote will decide the outcome. If we find out "who is the culprit", only that person will be punished, but if you chose the wrong person... we will punish everyone except the Blackened, and the person who tricked everyone will graduate!"

Makoto: "And the killer is really one of us, right?"

Monokuma: "Of course!"

Mene: "Hmm... Sayaka-chan didn't deserve to be treated like this... She's too perfect to be killed... Too abnormal... Sigh..."

Kiyotaka: "Okay... Now... Everyone close your eyes and whoever is the culprit, raise your hand!"
