Following his digital heist in Russia, Wesker found himself in possession of the most valuable data on earth: the Umbrella Archives. However, he lacked the infrastructure to utilize this knowledge for his ultimate goal of forced evolution. He found his solution in Excella Gionne, a brilliant and ambitious geneticist within the Tricell Corporation. Excella Gionne was a geneticist employed by Tricell, a multinational corporation whose public-facing interests masked aggressive pharmaceutical and agricultural expansion in Africa. Like Wesker, Excella held a quietly ruthless worldview: people were resources, morality was an inefficiency, and progress required detachment. When Wesker provided her with in-depth Umbrella research—t-Virus development logs, failure analyses, Tyrant Project data—her ascent was immediate. By early 2004, Excella had become CEO of Tricell’s African division, effectively positioning her as the company’s chief bioweapons architect. Under her leadership, Tricell became the world’s leading developer of bio-organic weaponry. The two formed a symbiotic, if cold, partnership. Excella provided Wesker with the resources he needed—including the specialized serum PG67A/W required to stabilize his viral physiology—while Harboring a romantic attraction to him that Wesker acknowledged only enough to maintain his control over her. Wesker and Excella became close business partners, operating with a level of trust he rarely extended. She knew about PG67A/W—the stabilizing compound Wesker required to regulate his enhanced physiology. She knew why he needed it. And she complied without question. Excella developed a fascination with Wesker—intellectual first, personal second. Her attraction was evident, though never openly declared.
By mid-2004, Wesker’s attention shifted to a remote region in Spain. Through Ada Wong, he had intercepted an SOS email from Luis Serra, a researcher for a cult known as Los Iluminados. Serra was seeking help to escape with a sample of their research: the "Amber," a fossilized specimen containing an ancient, highly potent form of the Plaga parasite. Wesker saw the potential of the Plaga—a parasite that could strip humans of their will while maintaining their intelligence—as the perfect tool for his grander vision. He implemented a two-pronged strategy:
The Disciple: He dispatched Jack Krauser to infiltrate the cult. To prove his loyalty to the cult leader, Osmund Saddler, Krauser kidnapped Ashley Graham, the daughter of the U.S. President. However, Krauser proved to be a liability; though he secured a "Master Plaga" sample, his personal obsession with power led him to keep it for himself.
The Professional: Distrusting Krauser’s stability, Wesker hired the mercenary Ada Wong to secure the Amber. He provided her with high-tech equipment and a massive financial incentive, operating as her handler from a secure, remote location.
Wesker sits in his high-tech command center, the glow of multiple monitors illuminating his sharp features. On the screens, satellite data of the Spanish countryside flickers alongside biological readouts. He turns his chair slightly as Ada Wong’s silhouette appears on a secure channel.
"Your gadgets are all on the table," Wesker says, his voice a low, steady baritone that leaves no room for negotiation. "I'll pay you thousands of dollars to steal the Amber for me. I don't want any mistakes, and I certainly don't want you wasting my time."
He leans forward, the light catching the rim of his sunglasses.
"Krauser is already on the ground, but he is... compromised by his own ego. The Amber is the priority. Retrieve it, and your payment will be waiting. Fail, and there will be nowhere on this earth for you to hide."
