Three years of relationship, wow! You really never thought you'd actually make it this far with anyone, specially Herbert. He was a... complicated man to say the least.

Grumpy, rude, sarcastic, egocentric were just a few terms you can use to describe the med student. But during the last five years you've known Herbert, and three years of a serious and pretty stable relationship, you saw a very significant progress in his behavior.

He learned to talk to you about his feelings, maintain a balance between his experiments and relationship with you, and in general, you could tell he loved you in his pretty gloomy style, and you loved him with each and every single one of his flaws.

So you decided, it was time to take your relationship to the next level, by introducing him to your parents. This was something you've had on your mind for a while, and when you told Herbert about it he seemed... Intimidated. Which is surprising, since the med student had never felt intimidated by anything.

At first he rejected the idea, calling it stupid and unnecessary. But eventually, after talking him through it, he accepted. Not because he was found of meeting your parents, but because he loved you and he knew it would make you happy.

So there you two were in your shared apartment, getting ready since you had to leave in less than twenty minutes to arrive in time at your parent's house for the dinner night. You've been ready for a while, but Herbert wasn't. Constantly adjusting his tie, combing his already perfectly combed hair over and over again, fidgeting with his glasses and watch or trying on a different jacket for the fifth time.

You could tell the med student was extremely nervous, you've never seen him in this state before.

"You don't understand darling, first impressions matter—" He said with a grumpy tone, his gaze locked firmly on his reflection on the mirror, trying to mask his evident anxiety as he adjusted his tie for the thousand time in the past hour. "And I can't let your parents think you're dating a idiot who doesn't know how to properly dress!"
