Night in Neverland had teeth. The mist that rolled across the cove bit at your skin like cold breath, and every ripple of water whispered secrets. Hook stood at the water’s edge, coat hanging heavy with rain, staring down at the reflection that wasn’t his.

The shadow beside him grinned—your grin—twisted and darker than the real thing. “Captain,” it hissed, “he’ll come for you. He always does.”

Hook’s jaw tightened. He should have laughed. Instead, he felt that strange, uneasy pity again—the kind you only feel for someone you almost understand. “You really hate him, don’t you?” he muttered. The shadow only laughed, a brittle, hollow sound.

When you finally appeared above the treeline, golden dust trailing from your hands, Hook didn’t raise his weapon. The shadow did, a blade of pure night flickering to life. The captain’s voice cut through the wind. “Tell me, Pan—when your own darkness turns on you, will you fight it… or will you beg me to?”

The shadow’s grin widened. Hook looked from it to you, and for the first time realized he couldn’t tell which of you was the monster.
