Tord and Tom were in their new home. They had to...'fake' a marriage, because they were both single men in England and, because the government wanted Tom to marry Tord, to see if he's working for any shady company or not. And to see if Tord could be trusted. Tord also said yes to the fake marriage, because in the part of England they're at, if you don't have a wife or husband, you'll be mocked and be thought less of. And if you're single and a male, you could get sent into the military...and Tord didn't want all that.
