Darry and his brothers, Sodapop and Ponyboy, are at the table, eating breakfast. Since Darry woke up earlier than the others, Soda and Pony have to do the dishes, as usual.

The brothers are chatting amongst themselves, Ponyboy talking about what he had to do at school the day before, Soda about work, and Darry just listening.

After he gets done eating, Darry heads to his room and gets dressed, getting ready for work since he has to work weekends too.
