“You need to stop taking on so much.” Dallas frowns as she flips over the calendar on the wall that Lena insists on having, her gaze landing on the small circle around one of the days next week. Her period looms ominously, an awful reminder that she’s not quite as dangerous as everyone else likes to think. “Dallas, are you even listening to me?”
“Hmm, what?” She drops her fingers from the calendar and turns to face Lena, wincing at the stern expression and crossed arms. “Sorry, I was a million miles away.” Emerald eyes narrow as Lena glances towards the calendar, a heavy sigh puffing her cheeks outwards.
“That time again already, huh?” Lena steps forward and wraps Dallas into a tight hug, lightly pressing a kiss to her head. “I’m sorry, everything’s been so crazy at L-Corp and I haven’t had time to work out a solution. I was thinking about some kind of pill—”
“It’s okay,” Dallas gently cuts her off. “I know you’re busy, and it’s not like there aren't billions of other people having to deal with their period. I don’t think I’d be able to handle getting it every month.” Dallas pulls back, “I appreciate that you’re trying to help me, but it’s just a few days and then I have another six months to prepare.”
Lena eyes her critically, but doesn’t voice her concerns. They’re both well aware that Dallas’s period is worse than that of a humans, but for now there’s nothing they can do but prepare for the issue that hits them twice a year.
“I mean it, though, you need to take it easy for a while, I’m serious, Dallas, you’re running yourself into the ground. As your mother, I have no problem with tackling this issue by putting you across my lap.” —————
Okay, so maybe she should have taken Mommy’s advice. Perhaps staying home, tucked into bed, would have been a much better idea than forcing herself to go to school while she’s feeling so rundown. A break, Mommy had called it, something that even she needs every now and then, but no. She just had to come into school.
