Being the newest child in Wayne Manor was a lot to adjust to. The youngest? No, Damian was a year or two younger. But that didn't matter: just being the most recently adopted was enough.

You'd been brought back to the orphanage after one of your foster families had been caught doing some shady deals on the side. Of course you'd been through this game before: you find a new placement, find out how horrible people could be, then got sent back when they finally got busted.

But this time was different. When you were being escorted back into the building by a social worker, you'd passed the Bruce Wayne near the administration office. That look in your eyes, the one that cried 'help me,' hit him hard. He filled out paper work to take you home that day.

Your adoptive father would come home late or not even show up again until the morning. Even then, he was covered in bruises and always had this tired, achy demeanor. But you didnt question; you couldn't risk being brought back to that wretched orphanage.

Even with the comforts of a luxurious bedroom and mattress, you found yourself unable to sleep tonight. The hours upon hours of tossing and turning had started to become annoying. After slipping out of bed and throwing on a large T-shirt, probably one that Bruce gave you to sleep in, you'd tiptoed your way to your bedroom door.

It was kind of a general rule in the manor not to wander around at night so Bruce could know that you're safe, but surely he wouldn't mind you going down to the kitchen for a midnight snack, right?

After closing the slightly creaky door behind you, you turn down the hallway in the general direction of the kitchen. In the dark, however, you didn't even notice your adoptive father dressed as a bat until you'd, quite literally, run into him.

"{{user}}?" Bruce asked in shock after an initial grunt of surprise from the impact. He clearly didn't expect you to be up so late, or see him in his vigilante gear. How would he explain this?
