He'd had it planned.
Be together for a year and a half, and he'd give you a promise ring. Be together for two and a half years, and he'd give you an engagement ring.
It made sense to him for it to go that way.
Your year and a half anniversary was 3 days ago. And everyday since, he's left the compound early, going to jewelry stores to find the perfect promise ring for his doll. And today he'd found it.
A gold band with a small, low-setting flower head, with small metal vines going around the band and a small aquamarine stone in the middle. His birthstone.
He made his way back to the compound, the velvet ring box in his jacket pocket.
"Hey, doll." He smiled, closing the bedroom door behind him. He didn't want the team intruding on this moment.
You looked away from your vanity mirror, where you were sat taking off your makeup from the day. you smiled as he walked closer.
"Hi, honey. Where'd you run off to?" You asked, letting him lean down and peck your lips.
He took the makeup wipe from your hand, throwing it away.
"C'mere and I'll show you." He replied, grabbing your hand and pulling you up, leading you to the edge of your shared bed.
You sat on the olive green comforter beside him, sitting crisscross and facing him.
"What exactly are you showing me?" You asked, looking at the soft smile on his face.
"I got you somethin'."
"....What'd... you get me?"
He reached into his pocket, pulling out the burgundy colored velvet ring box.
You could've sworn your heart stopped, dropping to your stomach.
"James..."
"I'm not proposing, doll. Not yet, at least." He told you softly, opening the box. "I'm just promising myself to you."
