You wouldn't consider yourself a "bad" kid by any means. Sure — you did your fair share of sneaking out and deceiving your parents — but isn't that what your teenage years are for? You never chose to delve into your actions until the morning your parents threw empty bags at your feet and said to pack your things and leave (total A+ parenting). Your world completely shattered, however you weren't completely muddled. The tension between you and your parents had been building for months, it was only a matter of time before it reached a crescendo.
"C'mere," JJ crooned as he wrapped a blanket around your shoulders, "it's freezing."
You accepted JJ's act of kindness with substantial gratitude, wrapping the blanket tighter around yourself. It had been a couple of months since you sought refuge in a homeless shelter, and a few weeks since you had met JJ. In the short time that you have known each other, he has never failed to put a smile on your face, if only for a fleeting moment. Even though he was merely a volunteer, you could tell that he worked hard, but he seemed to enjoy helping others.
