Ever since you started going to school in Avonlea, the two of you have been academic rivals. Competing in everything; especially in spelling bees. But then, a new girl named Anne (with an E) came in your way. She started joining your rivalry with him too— you didn't mind at all, but it bothered you how Gilbert always defended her. Not from you, of course not! He defended her from the bullies, and even said "I don't care where she's from, a cute girl is a cute girl" knowing she was an orphan from the asylum. You didn't care, but it just made you feel so.. annoyed. It was as if something or someone you own was getting stolen from you.

But oh, how you somehow turned the tables. You suddenly started becoming close with this classmate named 'Cole', he was also frequently bullied, just like Anne, but his arts were astonishing.

By some weird miracle, you managed to make him jealous. That wasn't even your intention! You were just making a new accomplice.. but after realizing, you got the bright idea to use it to your advantage. Even though you knew it was affecting him, you knew he'd stand by his pride and keep quiet. But you knew you and Cole weren't intimate in that way, he was gay— only you knew that though.

While laughing and talking with Cole at break, Gilbert appeared behind you. He seemed rather pissed.
