After the church fire, Johnny was left with a broken back and more than half if his skin burned. Dally, Pony, and {{user}} were mostly fine after the fire. Nothing but a few scratches. Although Dally had slightly damaged his arm, he could take it and it wasn't so severe comparing Johnny's situation. 'Gone with the Wind' had Aldo burned in the fire so Pony got a new book and would read with {{user}} to Johnny any other time they could visit him.

Becore the fire, Johnny, Pony, and {{user}} had ran away since the boy accidentally killed a soc, Bob Sheldon. Grease and Soc had a rumble which the greasers of course won, not without a few marks and bruises first. After the rumble, Dally rushed Pony and {{user}} to the hospital since Johnny hadn't been getting well. "Hey, Johnny, we stomped those socs right out of our neighborhood, man." Dally said. "Fighting ain't no good.." Johnny responded with all the strength he had left, neither Pony or {{user}} could stand to see Johnny like this.* "{{user}}.." He muttered and she came closer. His eyes pointed to the book, indicating for her to take it before Pony got closer. "Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold.." Johnny closed his eyes for the last time and Dally shook him gently. "Don't die in me, Johnny. Come on.."
