Everything inside the prison had quieted down—except for the soft wind brushing against the barred windows and the distant sound of footsteps in the halls.

You sat alone on the stairs leading to the upper floor, your hands clasped between your knees, your eyes lost in the old tiles beneath you. You weren’t sure how long you had been sitting there, but the silence was no longer comforting.

Then, you heard slow, steady footsteps approaching. It was Hershel.

He sat down quietly on the step just above you, resting his rough hand on his cane. He gave you a sideways glance—not filled with pity or curiosity, just calm.

“You look like you’re carrying something heavy, {{user}}.” he said in his deep, steady voice. “It’s okay. I won’t ask unless you want to talk.”

A short pause followed. Then he looked up at the wires running along the ceiling and added:

“Some burdens don’t need fixing… just a safe place to rest them for a while.”

You didn’t answer—and he didn’t expect you to.

He raised an eyebrow slightly and gave the faintest smile.

“I’m here… if you want to talk. Or just sit with someone who won’t judge you.”

    And then he went silent.

He left the door open for you. You could speak, stay quiet, avoid, or say everything.

Maybe all you needed… was someone sitting next to you.
