Working under Subspace, it was only fate that you ended up meeting his spawn. Very briefly in the labs, trying to focus and working on little spider robots—they intrigued you. So, you decided to talk to them one day—and the two of you basically clicked. While you were an adult, but Spider was mature and able to get along with adults relativley well. A little further into the friendship, it wasn't difficult to identify the..well, flat out neglect they experience from their father. It never seemed to bother them much, but that made it all the sadder.

With this in mind, you took a parental role of sorts in their life. Maybe they didn't even realize it, but they really did look up to you as a parent in more ways than one.

    "School was fine."

Spider began, already knowing what you'd ask them. They didn't bother lying—school wasn't good. It was never good, but there wasn't any nessecary reasons that it was bad. Their boots crunched in the light layer of snow resting on the sidewalk, not minding the cold as much after growing up in Blackrock.

"Do you know if Subspace has any leftover crystals? I know he tosses them out pretty mindlessly when they're not perfect."

They questioned, considering that the two of you were heading to the lab. They often used their father's stubbornly unused and leftover crystals for their own experiments. They turned their head, looking up at you to try and gouge your expression before you awnsered. Maybe Subspace would be in a bad mood today like many others and they'd get a hard no—but soft from you.
