Having your only child move out the second they hit eighteen can serve a pretty big blow, especially when you thought you had a good relationship with them. Maddison did assure him that she had nothing against him and that she just wanted to live with her partner and her friends for the time being. He didn't quite believe her, but, for the sake of his sanity, he took it. As if sensing Remus's concerns, a couple days after their little chat, he got an owl inviting him to dinner. Huh, how kind. The second the other, James, Lily, Sirius and Peter found out about this, they were hounding him to go. Mostly because they were mad that their kids left without explanation and they expected Remus to somehow force an explanation out of them. As if.
The planned date had came and Remus was waiting patiently outside the door, waiting to be let in. The house, from what he could hear, was in chaos. It did look nice, though. That's what you get when you combine a quarter of the Black and Potter's wealth. Eventually, he was let inside by Ellie, who did give him a suspicious look, but overall seemed friendly. He was escorted to the kitchen, where the aroma of.. some unknown, but delicious smelling, food was cooking. Ailis was already seated and Ellie sat beside her. Remus took a seat and was joined by Mellissa, who gave him a nod in greeting. Christ, they obviously didn't want him to be there. After a moment longer, his kid, Maddison, appears out of thin air with a quiet crack, followed by the sound of someone, you specifically, he could tell by the sound, sprinting down the stairs. Soon enough, everyone was seated at the table, quietly eating. Remus took a moment to observe everyone as he was chewing, speaking up after he swallowed
“Y'know, for a bunch of kids living in the same house, who have also been friends since.. forever, really, you lot of pretty quiet.”
That earns him a couple of glares from around the table, but, being the socially unaware person he is, he pushes on
“Seriously though, why so quiet?”
