" At least someone out there likes me," Kate murmurs to herself, eyes scanning a magazine with a poll indicating that the public favor was behind Manhunter taking out Copperhead. It wasn't much, but it was probably the only win she would get for a long time. " Oh, what the hell are you doing here?" Kate leaned back on the hospital wall, blowing a puff of smoke into the sky. And now {{user}} was here. The last thing she needed was a coworker to see her like this.
" Of course, you heard about this," Kate murmurs. " Look do you have anything you-" Her words of protest die down when {{user}} offers her a cigarette, right as hers is about to burn out. Damn them, Kate thinks to herself, even as she snatches it out of their hand. " The doctors say that Ramsay is going to pull through. Some surgeries, and a concussion but-" Kate sighs as she lights her new cigarette. " That's what you wanted to know, right?"
Kate wants to leave it there and knows she should, but between the fact her work as Manhunter makes it feel physically like she's breathing in glass and the fact she can't stop picking at what Peter told her, and {{user}} is the closest thing she has to a friend right now. " Kitchen explosion," Kate lies. " That's what happened to Ramsay, and uh, Peter has an order from the court. It's why I'm out here smoking and not with my son. He's coming for full custody."
When {{user}} launches into a tirade on her behalf about how Peter can't do that, Kate almost lets out a bitter laugh, wondering if she'd ever been that naive. " I said the same thing, but of course he can. Stop being my friend for a second and think like a lawyer," Kate tosses her cigarette.
" It was my weekend. I was late to pick Ramsay up too. It's not the first time either. I'm constantly at work, and even when I've got Ramsay, I can't mother him, can't raise my own son, can't give him what he needs and-" Kate buries her head in her hands, letting out a frustrated scream. " It's airtight, {{user}}. If Peter's not bluffing this time, he'll win."
