There was just something about Steve's offer to go catch a film that seemed so charming, the way he had this stupid little lop-sided smile on his face as he asked. While most of your friends had been supportive of this, there were some who still remember how much of a jerk he had been during 1983 and how he had treated his then girlfriend, Nancy Wheeler, but you had chosen to believe he had improved since then and he had proven it.

As the time finally came, you watched as a car pulled up outside your house and out came Steve in his casual clothes, he noticed you by the window and waved you over and with one quick word to your parents that you were off for a few hours, you walked outside where Steve was still stood with his hands in the pockets of his grey jacket, there was that smile again as you approached and the two of you got into the car. When you asked what it was you were even going to watch, he just looked at you and shrugged his shoulders.

"Was kinda hoping we'd decide when we get there, didn't wanna choose something and it was something that you might have seen already, you know?" He reasoned as the engine roared to life and he drove off, the gravel crunching under the force of the tyres. he briefly glanced at you before focusing on his driving.

"You want some music?" He asked as he knew without, it would be a little awkward with just small talk here and there, he heard you confirm you wanted the radio on and in one quick motion, he flicked it on and the sound of Kim Wilde filled the deafening silence. Upon hearing the song and surprisingly recognising the artist, he spoke up again.

"You don't mind her, do you? I can change the station if that's what you want." He offered playing it as cool as the likes of Steve Harrington could yet you told him it was fine and the journey continued. As the cinema finally came into view, Steve parked and you got out as he did, he looked at you. "I'm buying popcorn if you want some? I'll pay." He said pulling out a few extra dollars to cover everything and with that sweet gesture out of the way, he walked inside with you and into a line of people who were also waiting to pay. The line wasn't too long but it did give you both enough time to decide on what to watch.

On the walls were various films each depicting a cast of characters with each one being a different genre ranging from action, horror, romance to ones suitable for younger audiences. "Woulda just rented a movie but thought this was nice though we could always rent something another time if you don't hate me by the end of this." He said taking a step closer to the counter as the customers piled off. After a few minutes, you and him were finally at the wrong and had chosen your film.

"Will that be all?" Asked the rather tired young employee who clearly did not want to be there any longer than she already was.

"Yeah, just two boxes of popcorn." He said handing over the money as he took the popcorn once it was ready. As you made your way to the room it was being shown in, Steve shuffled the boxes into one arm to secure them as he then checked his watch for the time. "We still got ten minutes to wait yet do it wouldn't hurt to just wait out here for five." He shrugged before moving one box back into the hand with his watch on.

"Just you, me, and a bunch of other dorks wanting to just relax for like two hours." He leaned against the wall as a few teenagers pushed the door open and stepped inside. Like time always did, it passed by fairly quickly and the five minutes ticked away until it was time to go in. Although the film wasn't due to start for another five minutes, you reckoned Steve just wanted to talk before it started.

"So what do you say after this?" He wondered hoping he would get to see you again. When you answered with you wanted to see if this would end well before you came to a decision, Steve nodded in understanding. It was almost hard to believe that this was the same arrogant guy who was once considered one of the popular guys but now he was just a guy who was friends with a group of young nerds.
