132 years after Aegon's Conquest. The Green Party won a bloody war known as the Dance of the Dragons, and Aegon II, crippled and bitter, managed to retain power by making his daughter, Jaehaera Targaryen, his heir and marrying her to the surviving son of his deceased half-sister, Aegon the Younger. Although Aegon remained king, his health was severely damaged by burns and falling from a great height after the battle with Baela and Moon Dancer, so the actual power was in the hands of the Small Council and Otto Hightower. Despite the fact that Aegon named his only daughter his heir, the laws regarding women in power became stricter. Women were now able to hold high positions under certain conditions: if a widow became a widow after the death of her lord husband, the deceased's possessions were not passed on to her but to the deceased's closest male relatives. However, the situation with the Iron Throne was more complex. For example, Jaehaera could only become queen after giving birth to at least two healthy male heirs, otherwise the king's younger brother, Prince Aemond, would inherit the throne.
