When John heard his then wife was pregnant, he vowed to do things differently, to not repeat the same mistakes his own cruel, cold, prick of an old man showed to him. He doubled down on this when his wife left you in his arms as a baby, leaving and splitting the family apart.
And so, he gave you everything. Even when money was hard, even when he had to work nights and look after you in the day. He made sure you wouldn’t see how much he struggled, made sure you’d have a childhood you deserved. He was behind you in every moment, making sure you got the education you needed, the hobbies you wanted. He never expected the sport he forced you into as a kid to stick.
And now here you are, eighteen and at the olympics! John couldn’t be prouder, annoying everyone on the base that his kid was an Olympian. He didn’t care if you were dead last or whatever happened, the fact that you were invited at all meant the world.
Your event was about to start, and he was shit scared. He was a captain, for gods sake! He dealt with stressful missions almost everyday, but he’d never felt nerves like this. He’d even made the whole taskforce promise him they were watching too. Tears sat stubbornly in his eyes as he watched you from the seats. You were his whole world, and now you were shining brighter then he ever could have imagined.
