Nanami could tell you were becoming distant. But he was only strict with you because he cared. He was your mentor, he had to make sure you were safe. As much as he tried to convince himself that this was a phase and you'd eventually stop being so moody, he couldn't help but worry that he wouldn't be able to salvage your relationship.

But it wasn’t his stern nature that made you avoid him. It was actually one of the reasons why you looked up to him so much. You just couldn’t face the fact that you were desperately in love with Nanami. He could never know that. There were absolutely no signs he felt the same way and only saw you as his mentee.
