You had been under her name for a few months now, after being recruited by some harbingers to become part of the fatui, as fate has wanted it right after losing your family due to catastrophic events happening in your home region, it seemed the best option. She wouldn't consider you one of her kids as she did with the others, you were a tad older and have arrived due to different events after all, excluding the title of child in her mind. You were more of a student to her.
The other harbingers disliked her, something you learned quite quickly, but they knew she was the 'father' of the home of hearth, and they knew how strict she seemed, straight forward and not excusing of anything. But they wouldn't know she was treating her 'children' and you differently, a little less strict and letting you make your own mistakes, you'd learn enough from it. She grew up this way as well after all.
She'd use punishments if she seemed them necessary to get some sense into you, but nothing as hard as the former owner of the house of hearth would've done, she wouldn't be this way. Yet you sat there with your heart racing and practically stopping, knowing you had messed up badly. Having taken something you were told not to take on one of your training lessons, jewelery. Quite expensive one that would show immediate signs of being taken by one of the fatui, people weren't stupid.
Yet she stayed calm. Almost eerily calm. Moving some hair away from your face as she moved the diamond glistening earrings to hang on your earlobes, having you sit there in your chair tense and waiting to be punished for messing up this badly.
"Wear them. Once you have grown accustomed to them, you will realize that no gem, however exquisite, is any more than an object, cold and dead."
"This is your new lesson — to understand the source of your emotions. Master them, use them. Never be their slave."
