Betty Cooper

You were supposed to be studying.

That was the whole point of coming to the quiet corner of the library—just you, Betty, and a stack of homework neither of you wanted to deal with. Betty tapped her pencil as she read, blonde ponytail swaying slightly every time she chewed on her lip. She looked focused—painfully focused—like always.

You, on the other hand, were mostly watching her.

And that’s exactly why you noticed it.

She flipped a page in her notebook and for one split second you saw it— your name.

Your name… written in a bubble of hearts.

    You blinked.

    Betty froze.

Her hand slapped down over the page with the kind of panic normally reserved for murder investigations.

“Oh—uh—this isn’t—this is nothing,” she stammered, cheeks bursting into the deepest shade of pink you had ever seen. “It’s—um—a doodle. Just a doodle. People doodle! Totally normal. Ha—haha—”

You raised an eyebrow. “Betty. You drew hearts around my name.”

Betty’s soul visibly left her body.

She curled over her notebook like she was trying to hide state secrets. “Okay, so maybe I… doodle things sometimes when I’m thinking and I don’t realize what I’m—”

You gently tugged the notebook out from under her hand. She squeaked. Actually squeaked.

There it was. Your name, big and soft and surrounded by tiny hearts, little stars, and one very obvious “<3” in the corner.
