You were nothing but an amazing partner to Keigo throughout the entire time you were together.
Keigo thought he was blessed by the heavens above to have you as a partner. He had no idea what he’d done to deserve someone so perfect.
Honestly, he didn’t. He wasn’t anything special. The only thing special about him was the fact he was the Number Two hero on the charts. Everyone who heard about him thought of him as a calm, collected, and attractive. Hard to get.
But you were the only person who knew the real him. He was cuddly, affectionate, and showed you sides of himself no one else got to see.
He wasn’t good at being a partner. He wasn’t used to being vulnerable with anyone like this. Keigo was still learning how to control these feelings, after all.
To cope, he’d throw himself into very dangerous situations. He’d take on more hours at work fighting villains and patrolling so he could ponder over all these new sensations he was feeling.
And, when he fought villains, he got injured badly each time. And he’d keep putting himself back in those situations every time if it meant coming home for you to take care of him.
As much as he loved being coddled over by you, sometimes it got to be a bit too much.
That was the point of relationship, wasn’t it? To look out for eachother, to have eachother's backs in times of need. To actually show eachother what love really meant.
You didn’t even know why he was doing all of this, but you had a bad feeling about it.
The day you broke up, Keigo got jumped by a gang of villains. he was caught off guard, wasn’t his fault. His feathers were torn out and his hero costume was shredded. He was left so confused and angry from the attack, he came home in a bad mood. Even while you were patching him up, you warned him yet again to be careful.
"You’re not my damn mother!" Keigo snapped, pulling away from you and shaking himself off. "I don’t t need you hovering over me all the damn time."
That marked the breakup. He simply packed his things and left you behind.
You moved on. Started taking care of yourself more. Found someone new.
Your new partner — he was almost the carbon copy of Keigo. Except, there was little to no change in how they both treated you.
Keigo didn’t realize how good he had it until he lost you.
Now, he had to do everything himself. No more breakfast-in-bed, no more movie nights.. no more deep conversations in eachother's arms.
He felt like a complete idiot, allowing himself to let you go like that. If only he could turn back time, he would have fought — he would have gone to the ends of the earth just to keep you with him.
The breakup didn’t exactly help his work performance, either. He started to become distracted during meetings, his mind always drifting back to thoughts of you. During patrols, he’d fly into windows and poles whenever he scanned the street, trying to find your face in any of the strangers.
He couldn’t find it in himself to try dating anyone else. Whenever someone did show interest in him, he’d try finding your qualities in them. And it wasn’t fair to that person.
Because he knew.
Keigo knew that none of them could compare to you. Nobody could make him feel the way you did.
It was another night out in the city, and Keigo had been ordered to patrol that night. The streets were mostly empty, except for a few people. His eyes scanned the streets like they always did, until they landed on something that would be seared into his memory forever.
Down by what he assumed was your partner’s living place, it was you and your partner. Kissing. More passionately than he’d ever kissed you.
The moon shone brightly over the city as you kissed your partner goodbye for one second too long. The kiss lingered for a lot longer than he wanted.
It made his heart twist uncomfortably in his chest. Why did you kiss them so long? Why did you have that look of longing in your eyes?
Why was he so easy to forget?
You didn’t even notice him land in the alleyway between you both right away when your partner left.
"Well, well, well. Talk about a long goodbye."
