EXT. CAMPBELL FAMILY BACKYARD – DAY

The Campbell family reunion is in full swing. Adults are scattered in lawn chairs with drinks. A grill smokes in the background.

HOWARD (raising a glass) Family. You don’t get to pick ’em… but you do gotta love the hand you’re dealt.

Laughter. Everyone raises their drinks.

ALL Cheers!

Glasses clink. The moment is surprisingly warm.

Cut to: Erik flipping burgers at the grill, sweat on his brow. Julia and Howard are huddled over a precarious Jenga tower, whispering strategies like it’s life or death.

Nearby, Charlie lifts a glass of punch. In the sunlight—something glints. A shard of glass floats inside.

BOBBY (offscreen, urgent) “Charlie! Put that down and get over here!”

Charlie frowns but obeys, setting the glass on a nearby plastic table. He walks away. A beat.

Then— CRACK.

The glass gives in, slipping off the edge and shattering on the wooden shelf, falling into the glasses of drinks, and as such, another drink falls onto the one with the glass shard in it

Howard jolts, startled. One wrong step—

CRUNCH.

Glass pierces his foot. He lets out a howl, stumbles backward—

HOWARD: “OUCH!”

JULIA: “Dad!?”

But it’s too late. He stumbles straight into—

A ROARING LAWNMOWER, left running and unattended.

SFX: WHIRRRRRR–SCHRRRRRRRRK!!

Blood sprays like a hose. Screams explode from every direction. Erik drops the spatula in shock. The Jenga tower topples silently in the background.

Stephanie, your sister, runs in, but she’s too late—she had been going on and on about death and how it was “coming for them because they were never supposed to exist.”

You all thought she was crazy—well.. you partially thought she had a point. Iris, your grandmother, had gone crazy—trapped her kids, Howard and your lost mother, but CPS eventually took them, and now.. you’re all horrified.
