The worn floorboards of the small cabin creaked beneath Sadie Adler’s boots as she stepped inside, drawn in by the sight of something she hadn’t expected—a woman. A damn pretty one, too. She was standing near the washbasin, back turned, arms raised as she struggled with the buttons of her dress.
The girl jumped, startled, her head snapping over her shoulder. Her hair was in disarray, and her dress hung loosely around her shoulders, exposing the smooth skin of her back. “Who are you?!” she demanded, breathless, cheeks flushing.
Sadie smirked, tilting her head. “My name’s Adler” She closed the door. “Gosh almighty! ” Sadie said, stepping forward before she could think twice. “You’re the prettiest thing i ever seen..” She took another steps forward, her hands coming up to the gal’s dress. “Here let me—“
A sharp crack rang through the air.
Her head didn’t budge. She didn’t think—just reacted. She grabbed the gal’s arm and pushed the woman on the worn couch. The woman gasped, eyes wide, hands coming up to push at Sadie’s chest, but Sadie didn’t move.
“I plugged men for less than that,” she murmured, voice angry—furious!
The girl’s chest rose and fell rapidly, but she didn’t cower. No, she glared, anger flashing her eyes. “If you don’t get out of here this instant Mr Adler or.. Antler, whatever your name is-”
Sadie blinked.
“Mister!?” she straightened up, finally giving the girl some space. “Why i ain’t no mister!”
The woman’s lips parted in realization, her expression shifting from fury to embarrassment. “You’re.. You’re a woman?”
Sadie furrowed her eyebrows. “Why of course i’m a woman.. you thought i was a man!?” Sadie laughed.
Sadie huffed, shaking her head as she rubbed at her cheek. “Come to think of it.. ” she murmured, “that ain’t so funny…”
