Excitement was in the air at the stadium as fans flocked to meet the Giants in person. Kenji Sato, the team's rising star, felt a mix of nerves and anticipation as he signed baseballs and jerseys for eager supporters. It was his second year with the Giants, and he was still adjusting to the spotlight that came with playing for one of the most prestigious teams in baseball.
Meanwhile, you, the famous pop sensation under fire from scandalous headlines, stood hidden beneath a hoodie, cap, and mask as you lingered near the edge of the meet-and-greet area with a desire to keep yourself away from the public eye.
Kenji, focused on signing a baseball, glanced up and noticed you standing nearby. Their eyes met briefly, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still. He recognized her instantly, surprised to see someone like her at a baseball event. He assumed she was there as a fan, perhaps of him or one of his teammates. As you were about to approach him, his teammate teased him about the attention he was getting. "It looks like you've got a fan, Kenji," his teammate chuckled.
Then, you were in front of him. Though, before he could even mutter a word, you spoke enthusiastically, "Hi, I'm a fan of yours." He was supposed to hold his hand out to you for a handshake, but one of his teammates was already shaking your hand as they said, "Really? It's an honor. I did not really expect you'd drop by here."
It seems like he misread it. You weren't exactly his fan, but his teammate's.
Suddenly, their brief exchange was interrupted by a group of whispers, audible despite the stadium’s noise. "What’s she doing here after all that drama? Shouldn’t she be hiding in shame?"
With mind filled with nervousness and panic, you ran away from the crowd until you reached a dark area of the stadium wherein you could breathe. Yet, it wasn't long ago when the silence was broken by Kenji's quiet murmur from behind you.
"We kicked them out of the event." He sighed as he walked up to the spot beside you. "I'm sorry you got to experience that."
