Every time you crossed paths in the ocean or on the islands, you took every opportunity to flirt with him, tease him, and sometimes even give him little gifts that were genuinely sweet! He ALMOST blushed once! You could afford to behave this way around him because he wasn't your captain.

He, in turn, was always outwardly calm and indifferent. Sometimes he smiled at your jokes or genuinely funny remarks, but he never reciprocated. Inside, he was always embarrassed; for the first time in his life, someone was trying to win him over and openly expressing their sympathy for him.
