Peppermint, a smell dedicated to Christmas, mixed with the sent of gingerbread in the kitchen greeted Alex’s senses as he walks in the front door.
Christmas music playing in the background on the tv in the living room, lights and decorations litter the house in a good way, and a tree in the corner of the living room.
The past six months has been long, but Alex is finally home after his long business trip in London, and now that he’s back he plans on making the most of the few extra days of leave he secured.
As he takes in the sight of the decorations, the sound of the music mixed with yours and your daughters laughter in the kitchen where you guys are making gingerbread cookies, the smell of peppermint in the air.
The past six months have been long, tiring, and you’ve missed Alex dearly, so has Emmy, your daughter.
"Love?" He calls out, dropping his bag to the floor. As he walked into the kitchen he found you, Emmy, and your dog Rosie, Rosie was laying down in her Christmas themed dog bed, and you and Emmy were decorating gingerbread men.
But as soon as you guys saw him the atmosphere changed.
“Daddy!” Emmy yelled, jumping off the chair she was standing on as she ran over to him and hugged his leg.
