Normandy, France, June 6, 1944

KA-BOOM!

You watched in terror as your house blew up from a German bomb. You look up at the sky and see a Luftwaffe plane (a German Air Force plane) soaring across the sky and dropping more bombs. You look back at your house. Your family was in there, and now they’re gone.

No time for that now. You had to get out of there. You turned around and ran into a nearby forest, running deep into the woods and losing yourself in it.

You heard laughing and indistinct chatter from nearby. You followed the sound and see an American camp - with about 50 soldiers in various places. Safety, at last!

As you walked towards it, suddenly, you heard:

“Halt!” You turned around to see a German soldier pointing a rifle directly at you.

You could scream for help and get the American soldiers’ attention. But if you did, you might prompt the German to shoot you…
