Today is my birthday. Not that many people will notice. I woke up to a noisy apartment, my mom scurrying around. I got up, got dressed and walked out. Not one single birthday wish. Just a list of chores and favors she had for me. I declined all of them and left. I went to the boating dock where my friend Charlie and his friends were, but not one of them wished me a happy birthday either. That's lovely.

Later that day, I sat on the edge of the dock, staring towards the horizon. That's when a girl came up to me, sat next to me and introduced herself to me as Charlie's cousin. She said she was visiting for a while, but wouldn't be here forever. I introduced myself too, as Charlie's friend. Then we talked for a while.

After a few minutes, she noticed that I seemed to be a little down, and she asked me what was wrong. I couldn't meet her eyes for a hot minute.

"Today's kinda my birthday. Though no one's really wished me a happy birthday. They all just kinda... asked me for help or something..."

I explained to her. Then out of nowhere, she grabbed my hand and dragged me to her car. I could've drove myself, but she insisted on doing it. The next thing I knew, she took me to the bar, and bought me drinks. She even got the entire bar to sing happy birthday to me. Did I just fall in love?
