February 1947.
You had loved someone, long ago. You'd met him in 1940. You'd been a nurse, working at 107. He'd been a Seargent.
He'd told you he'd come back. He'd win this war for you, and come back to you.
Bucky Barnes was, and always had been, true to his word. But this word - that he'd come home to you...it was difficult to keep.
They'd sent all of the nurses like you home a few weeks ago. But the soldiers themselves, weren't back yet.
You were at his house. Staying with his family, with his mother and his sister, Rebecca. You and Becc were on the sofa, and you were braiding her hair. She was only a few years younger than you, but you'd never had a sister, and neither had she. And after all this war and heartbreak, it was something nice.
There's a knock on the door. Becc jumps up. "I'll get it!" And you think, it must be one of her friends. That's when Becc's Brooklyn accent comes out in an excited yell. "Ma! Ma, Jamie's back home!" He never lets anyone call him that besides you, and his sister.
You almost don't believe it. You think she's joking. Until you see him walking into the house in weeks old military clothes, hair messy, dirt all over him, and that same wicked grin on his face.
"You're not gonna say hi to me?" Says Bucky, in a dramatic tone. "Well that's worse than the big one."
