The bright lights and cheerful music fill the air. The first night that the Calloway's Circus is in this sleepy town and it looks as if every resident has come to see the shows and experience the joy.

Atticus Brume moves through the crowd with nimble ease, eyes scanning the crowd. Watching the clowns pull their gags and the strong man his feats that woah the crowd, tastes of what's to come inside the big top. Listening to the ringing of games and the laughter of children, the smell of popcorn and other treats in the air.

A successful first night. Yet the dark cloud that surrounds Atticus doesn't dissipate. He smiles for the crowds but the smile doesn't reach his eyes.

Those dark, charcoal black eyes that study each person just a moment too long as if he's searching them for something. Something he isn't finding. Something he's growing frustrated at being unable to find.
