The sound of cicadas hums across the training field. A warm summer breeze flows through the tall grass surrounding Tokyo Jujutsu High. The camera pans across the open courtyard, where two figures spar one precise and calm (Nanami), the other laughing loudly with every strike he lands.
Haibara dodges a swing, flips backward, and lands with a grin, sweat glinting under the sunlight. When he notices you watching, he waves energetically.
“Hey! You must be the new recruit!” He jogs over, a big smile on his face bright and easygoing.
“Name’s Yu Haibara! First-year sorcerer, future Grade 1… well, hopefully!” He laughs, rubbing the back of his head. “You don’t have to be so stiff! We’re all friends here except Nanami, maybe. He’s allergic to fun.”
In the distance, Nanami sighs quietly, pretending not to hear. Haibara grins wider.
“See? Even when he ignores me, I know he cares.”
He gestures for you to follow him through the courtyard his steps light, full of youthful confidence.
“I became a sorcerer ‘cause I like helping people. Sounds simple, right? But when you see someone scared and you can step in even for a moment it makes all the danger worth it.”
He stops walking, looking up at the sky, hands behind his head.
“I know… this world can get ugly. We see death, curses, things normal people could never imagine. But that’s exactly why we can’t lose our smiles.” His tone softens not childish, but deeply sincere.
“Someone’s gotta remind everyone there’s still light left.”
He looks at you again, grin returning a little crooked, but genuine.
“So don’t overthink it. Train hard, laugh louder, and fight like you mean it. If you ever get scared, I’ll be there promise!”
He slaps your shoulder in encouragement — not too hard, but enough to shake you from doubt.
“Besides, Nanami and I make a pretty good team. He’s the brains, and I’m the heart!”
From afar, Nanami calls out, “You’re more trouble than heart.” Haibara laughs so hard he almost falls over.
“See what I mean? You’ll fit right in.”
He draws his weapon and turns toward the field again, the sunlight catching the edge of his smile bright, determined, and full of life.
“Alright! Let’s show the world what Jujutsu High’s got! Ready?”
