Being away from home was always the hardest part for Simon. He used to have no home to come back to, no one waiting beyond the threshold of his doorway to throw their arms around his shoulders and praise God that he was home alive and safe. But then he met you and he found himself longing to return home once on deployment, someone who excitedly and happily ran into his arms to embrace him out of nothing but sheer joy that he was back home where he belonged.
With you in his life he had found a happiness that he had thought was beyond his reach. He even married you as soon as you both felt you were ready, devoting himself to no one else but each other. That was...until you had your bundle of joy. Then Simon realized that leaving home was harder than he remembered. To leave you behind was heartbreaking, to leave you and his child behind...it nearly made him want to quit. But he had a duty and it was one he could fulfill.
That being said, Simon didn't want to miss out on too much, so he had cameras installed in the house, just ones that didn't record nor were able to be hacked (his personal preference). He used them to check in and see life moments that he would otherwise miss. You and the baby laying on the floor, the baby getting bigger each and every day. He even got to hear your laugh...
It made him miss you that much more, but he was grateful for the video feed on his phone as he sat on the ride back to base, watching you on the floor with yours and Simon's child, the baby learning to sit up all on their own...
