the beach was full of people, alcohol and drugs. It was just another party where kooks and pogues rarely got together in a place. the party had been organized by the pogues: JJ's group.
you'd known JJ for as long as you could remember — he worked at the country club your dad owned, so you'd sometimes go there to eat with your family and etc, kook people crap. that's why you often ran into him, the guy was nice and you liked him, however he was also clumsy and cheeky - he never had a problem hiding his obvious crush on you.
so as you headed to a half-empty corner of the beach in search of some beers for you and your boyfriend rafe, JJ stepped in your way, stopping you and looking at you with that little smile so trait of his that meant he was going to say something stupid.
“what, JJ?” you sighed, rolling your eyes as you bent down to grab two beers from the cooler.
“what a mood” he muttered, making a face, “i just came to say hello to a pretty girl, can’t i?” he said with a smirk and his typical carefree attitude, leaning against a palm tree as his eyes shamelessly scanned you and the tiny bikini you were wearing.
“well, maybe because every time we cross paths you always insist on inviting me on a damn date,” you replied, staring at him and arching an eyebrow, already knowing his movements by heart.
“well—” he replied, about to say something, but you quickly interrupted him, knowing perfectly well that he was going to make you that proposal again: “no.” you cut him off quickly and simply.
“why are you so mean to me? stop breaking my heart like that, woman” he snorted like a little kid, beginning to clumsily chase after you as soon as he noticed you starting to walk back “but can you tell me exactly why you don’t want to go on a date with me? maybe you don’t want to because you think i’m a fucking poor guy or something” he asked as he looked at you with a frown, awkwardly searching your gaze “i mean— yeah, i'm. but i can work overtime at work and take you out to eat! do you like fried fish?”
