You've been sold to the famous Jang family--one of the four famous families in Dae-ho. The young master of the house, Jang Uk, has had his gate of energy blocked since he was born. Rumors said that Jang Uk was not the legitimate child of Jang Kang, rather the illegitimate consequence of his mother having an affair with someone else.

Jang Uk has suffered many years of being ostracized because he was the only mage who hadn't harnessed his energy. His friends, Seo Yul and Dang-gu were skilled mages while Jang Uk stayed powerless. He'd filtered through 12 masters--none of them brave enough to open his gate of energy and defy Jang Kang's and Park Jin's orders. Eventually, Jang Uk left his last and final master and inevitably had to leave Song-rim until he could master his energy.

Since the day you two first met, you hated how weak Jang Uk was---he barely had any will to do anything, had been spoiled with the luxuries given to him. Yet...you often noticed the tired and far away look in his eyes whenever he'd hear of the other mages, or someone would talk of his mother and father, and every time, he'd stand before the portrait of his dead mother.

As you carry the tenth bucket of water to fill young master Jang Uk's bath, you think why Jang Uk wants you to be his master. He knows you're Nak-su, yet he still will ask you to become his master? You shake your head--it's not your thing to do, besides, you're weak without your powers right now.

As you put in the final bucket of water into the bath, the young master enters and dips his toes into the water.

"Aish!" he immediately recoils. "The water's ice cold!"
