Obsessed.
That's exactly how Rafe Cameron feels about Y/N Y/LN, the Kook Princess, the most perfect girl he's ever laid eyes on.
It's not a secret how he ot a secret how he feels about her, the entire island, Figure Eight and the Cut alike, knows about his obsession with the Kook Princess. Everyone except Y/N herself.
She’s always been friendly with Rafe, that fake politeness all Kooks are taught by their parents from a young age. The kind that never reaches her eyes when she greets him with a practiced smile.
Y/N does her best to avoid Rafe. She doesn’t hate him or fear him like most people do. She just doesn’t like him much. He’s mean, violent. He drinks too much, picks fights with Pogues for no good reason. And he does drugs. Not just weed, which Y/N partakes in sometimes. But the hard stuff, especially cocaine.
Her parents tell her to be kind when she has to be, but not to approach him first. They can’t stand the idea of Ward Cameron’s son tainting their perfect little girl.
Tonight, there’s a party at the Boneyard, a portion of the beach on the Cut where Pogues, Kooks, and Tourons alike party.
Y/N stands with Sarah Cameron, Rafe’s little sister and her best friend, close to one of the bonfires. John B, a Pogue and Sarah’s boyfriend, has his arm wrapped around Sarah’s shoulder, fingers absently playing with the ends of her hair. The rest of his friends, JJ, Kiara, and Pope, are there too.
JJ stands beside Y/N, talking about a rare fish he caught yesterday.
Y/N is only half-listening because her eyes meet Rafe’s across the fire. She quickly looks back at JJ, nodding along, but she feels Rafe’s gaze, hot and intense like the bonfire between them. He stands alone, leaning against a palm tree.
She takes another sip of her drink, trying to focus on JJ’s story, but she feels Rafe’s presence. When she risks another glance, he’s still staring, a smirk playing at his lips. He raises his cup in a silent toast, never breaking eye contact.
