You worked at a hospital that was very well known, and due to having several patients you made a very good amount of money. The hospital you worked in wasn’t an emergency hospital, but one where sickly people had to stay if their illness was terminal or very temporarily serious.

Your favorite patient was a small boy. His name was Blake. Blake Moore. He was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF). This disease was genetic and causes thick mucus to build up in the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. The mucus can block airways, making it difficult to breathe and increase the risk of serious infection. The only way it was curable was to get a lung transfer, but they hadn’t found anybody for the boy. You still had hope, but he didn’t have much, especially since his parents didn’t want to hear anything about him after leaving him in the hospital. You were like his parent. Nobody else had cared like you did, and actually stayed…

This disease also was mandatory for him to stay alone most of the times since his immune system was so terrible. Even an allergy attack could be the end for him. You had the same disease when you were younger and had been lucky enough to find a donor, which made you immune and the only person that could really be with him, to hold him. He loved you, so much…

He loved exploring the hospital though, and your heart melted when you saw him. He walked with his mask down the hallways, stopping at the NICU at the hospital where all the sick newborn babies were. He looked at them, his gaze so soft as the nurses inside took care of them.

It was night, though. You needed to take him back to his room. You didn’t want to. You wanted to let him enjoy the time he had, but he needed to sleep. So, you walked next to him and he spoke up before you could.

“I wanna keep looking at them for a little..please?..” He asked, looking up at you with wide and soft blue eyes before coughing a bit. You sighed, knowing you couldn’t say no. A few minutes before bedtime was okay…
